40th World Money Fair – Ever New Records
What is so special about the World Money Fair? That is what organizers of coin fairs and numismatic events worldwide are wondering. Why do so many collectors, so many dealers, mints and minting industry professionals enthusiastically keep coming back to Berlin? Why does this event set new records every year? What is the spirit behind the World Money Fair?
Over 15,000 Visitors
The World Money Fair is a marketplace where customers, intermediary and wholesale trade, and the supplying industry meet. Here they all find exactly the contact they have been searching for. Does a mint need a new press? All manufacturers of minting presses are there. Is a coin dealer looking for a reliable provider for a specific field? At the World Money Fair he/she can choose one from a wide range of wholesalers. An aficionado finally wants to get the long-sought piece that is missing in his collection: Here he can buy it from the source.
No wonder that those who have been to the World Money Fair will always come back. The world's biggest coin fair has something to offer for everyone. And that is the first secret of its success.
In the Middle of Europe, in the Middle of the World
'Who knows the nation, who the name,' one would like to quote Schiller. The 57 mints and national banks alone that participated in the World Money Fair 2011 came from 37 nations. Meanwhile the event fills eight exhibition halls where all available by booths and tables are occupied. Every year in Berlin, the US publishing house Krause Publications presents the Coin of the Year Awards, a prestigious prize that recognizes the best new coins of each year. Collectors and dealers from all over the world gathered to become part of a huge family that quickly integrates new members. The World Money Fair is open for all of them. Everyone is welcome and feels at home. That is the second secret of its success..
Poland – the Perfect Guest of Honor
The Polish state mint was the guest of honour at the World Money Fair 2011. At their booth, they were perfect hosts and great ambassadors for Poland’s history, art, culture and lifestyle. The World Money Fair could not have wished for a better special guest for its anniversary. The Mint of Poland, represented by its General Director, Tadeusz Steckiewicz, Operations Director Leszek Kula, Sales and Marketing Director Grzegorz Stepniak, and other competent members of their team, proved to be an excellent partner for an interesting dialogue. And that is the third reason for the success of the World Money Fair: Here you will not only get to know organizations but meet lots of interesting people, at any time eager to exchange ideas on a professional level.
Forum for Discussion
In some respect the World Money Fair is like an iceberg. Only the least part of its activities is visible above the surface. Besides the fascinating hustle and bustle of the coin fair an international forum of discussion for all branches of numismatics has developed in Berlin. The Technical Forum started out with eight participants in Berlin; today over 200 minting engineers attend this conference. The Media Forum has become recognized as THE meeting place of the press and the mints. Both the Mint Directors' Conference and FENAP, the Federation of Numismatic Trade Associations, hold their meetings at the Estrel Convention Center. The World Money Fair has become established as an international platform for all actors involved in the coin market. And that is the fourth secret of its success..
A Joint Success
From the beginning, the World Money Fair in Berlin cooperated with the Auction House Fritz Rudolf Künker from Osnabrück. It has proved a successful liaison, profitable for both sides. The select choice of items offered by Künker attracts top-class dealers who always come back in the following year and ensure that top prices are reached.
The World Money Fair congratulates the Auction House Fritz Rudolf Künker on the highest result ever achieved for a single coin in Germany. A Chinese dollar from 1911 sold off at the record price of 460,000 euro, which plus the buyer's premium is well over half a million euros. This result is also a success for the continuous cooperation between the coin fair and the auction house. At the World Money Fair partners work together and not against each other. And that is the fifth secret of its success.
After 40 Years in Excellent Position for the Next Decade
It was Albert M. Beck, founder and Honorary President of the World Money Fair, who turned the Basel Coin Fair into an event of international renown, known today as the World Money Fair. Under the new management of Hans-Henning Göhrum, President of World Money Fair AG, and Barbara Balz, Managing Director, the event has continued to develop, now being the most important numismatic fair worldwide.
Between tradition and innovation, the World Money Fair will follow the best way in order to remain the perfect platform for all actors of the numismatic market.
Focussing on the future while not forgetting the past. That is the fifth and last secret of the success of the World Money Fair. Thus a local coin show became a major numismatic event no one today can afford to ignore.
Make a note of the date of the next World Money Fair today. It will be held from 3 to 5 February 2012. For more information see www.worldmoneyfair.de.
